My son, Cody, works in advertising as a copywriter. He is quite talented and even wrote a Super Bowl ad. Pretty cool, huh? A number of years ago, when the Boy Scouts of America was opening up the organization to girls, they hired his ad agency to work on the campaign. Being an Eagle Scout from Troop 700 in Grapevine, Texas, he was naturally assigned to work on the campaign.
Knowing my son's involvement in working towards getting girls accepted into Scouting, I was very enthusiastic when I was contacted by a parent of Troop 700G to create a portrait of her daughter who had just attained her Eagle rank. After years of serving as a Scoutmaster I have seen of our Scout's sisters sitting on the sidelines at meetings while their brothers got to have all of the fun. I love seeing glass ceilings shattered (or any other ceilings for that matter). It is important at that age to learn and understand that women can do anything guys can do, and often do it better. It better prepares our youth for the adult world, where they will be working side by side with member of the opposite sex.
Since our new Eagle Scout is under 18, I won't use her name to protect her privacy. I was so impressed by this young woman! She showed up to the session with her brother and had everything ready. It is refreshing to see someone take their portrait session seriously. Her hair, makeup, nails, clothing, and attitude were just what I would hope for from every client. She works a part time job, makes excellent grades in high school, and even trains for fitness competitions. Her plan upon graduation is to join the US Coast Guard. They will be lucky to have her.
Her mom decided on a 12x18' canvas gallery wrap for their home, which will go along with her portrait in her coast guard uniform I will create in the next few years. I know she is going to have an amazing career and future serving her country.
With every portrait purchased I provide a full resolution digital image, so mom can share her images with other family members or post to social media. If you would like to inquire about getting your own portrait made, just click on the button below the images.
